Gerd Bedszent

Gerd Bedszent (* 1958 in Nordhausen ) is a German journalist and writer .

Life

Gerd Bedszent first learned the job of a building material tester, then studied civil engineering and business administration. He worked in transport construction for many years until he switched to journalism.

In the late GDR he was a member of the Initiative for a United Left (VL), as can be seen from various contributions in the circular Vau-elL dating from 1990/1991. After its disintegration, he was initially involved in various extra-parliamentary initiatives. From the mid-1990s he became involved in the crisis group . In 2004 he left the context and joined the then newly founded Exit! Group .

Bedszent wrote several prose works and is the editor of a book series with dramatic texts within the framework of the Trafo publishing group . Together with the writer Katrin Lange , he wrote several plays. He is editor of the quarterly magazine BIG Business Crime , writes regularly for the daily newspaper " Junge Welt " and for the biweekly magazine Ossietzky as well as occasionally for " Neue Deutschland " and the weekly magazine " Der Freitag ".

Bedszent was one of the first to sign a declaration in March 2018 in which writers and other cultural workers express their solidarity with all people who "seek refuge from war, persecution and poverty in our country".

Gerd Bedszent is a member of the Association of German Writers and has been a member of the board of the Berlin State Association (VS Berlin) since May 9, 2018. He is married and lives in Berlin.
