resume
Gerd Dehof was born in Zweibrücken and went to school there. From 1938 he lived with the family in Ludwigshafen am Rhein and initially completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith . He was drafted into the infantry and released from the army in 1944 after being seriously wounded. Then he lived in Mannheim and began his artistic career.
As a student of Carl Trummer , he found his calling when he founded the Free Academy with Paul Berger-Bergner , Wolf Magin and Paul Walter, which later became the Werkkunstschule and today's technical college. Study trips later took him to France and Italy, Greece and Egypt and inspired him in three-dimensional design and drawing.
The city of Mannheim named a square after Dehof.
