Gerd Geilen

Gerd Geilen (born August 10, 1931 in Mönchengladbach ; † November 10, 2015 in Bochum ) was a German legal scholar .

life and work

Gerd Geilen, who received his doctorate in 1956, became a private lecturer in 1963 . In 1964 he became a full professor at the Ruhr University Bochum for criminal and criminal procedure law and its founding member. In his courses and his textbook on criminal law, it was important to him to convey the sometimes dry material through humorous cases with appropriately characterized people. Geilen was considered one of the most popular lecturers. If one applies today's standards of political correctness , the characterizations of some of the people appearing in the exercises would be problematic. Such figures are e.g. B. the "feeble nymphomaniac Amanda Semper."

In July 1996 Gerd Geilen gave his farewell lecture. A symposium was held in 2001 to mark his seventieth birthday .
