Gerd Hans-Jürgen Gruber (born February 20, 1960 in Erbach / Odenwald ) is a German orthopedic surgeon and trauma surgeon.

Career

Gruber studied medicine  at the  Université de Lille II from 1978 to 1979 . He then continued his studies at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . He graduated with a medical state examination in 1985 from, in June 1988 was followed by the promotion of Dr. med.

In 1985 Gruber began his training as an assistant doctor at the Surgical Clinic District Hospital in Erbach / Odw., Which he continued from 1988 at the Orthopedic University Clinic in Gießen and graduated in 1992 with recognition as a specialist in orthopedics . The appointment as senior physician followed. In 1999, he received his habilitation and was awarded the Venia legendi in orthopedics by the University of Giessen.

In the same year Gruber moved to the ATOS Clinic in Heidelberg , where he was responsible for the “Endoprosthetics of the Hip and Knee Joint ” department with an orthopedic practice. After his rehabilitation at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 2008, he continued to teach at the Medical Faculty Mannheim. In 2010 he was appointed adjunct professor by the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, Mannheim Medical Faculty.

In 2015 Gruber founded the department for "Endoprosthetics of the Hip and Knee Joint" with an orthopedic practice at the Ethianum Clinic in Heidelberg

Gruber is married and has two children.

Endoprosthetics

Gruber is mainly dedicated to endoprosthetics. In 1992 he introduced the initial spark for short-shaft hip joint prostheses in Germany. The so-called pressure disc prosthesis, developed by Huggler and Jacob, a special form of hip prosthesis, was the global pioneer in bone-saving hip prosthesis. Today, the provision of a short stem prosthesis is considered the 'gold standard' for particularly young patients who need a hip prosthesis . As part of his habilitation, Gruber researched the osseous ingrowth behavior of titanium hollow shaft implants. The scientific results of this investigation are still valid today and serve as the basis for endoprosthetics with 'cement-free' anchoring.

Sonography

Gruber is an expert in the field of sonography of the locomotor organs and ultrasound diagnostics of the infant hip. He is considered to be a representative of radiation-free imaging diagnostics in medicine. Today he is one of 50 DEGUM stage III trainers in Germany and since 2000 in the ultrasonic Commission of the physicians' association Baden-Württemberg operates. In addition, from 1996 to 2000 he chaired the DEGUM Movement Organs Working Group.

Since 1988 Gruber has been teaching several national and international courses in ultrasound diagnostics every year (around 300 courses to date) for doctors. He describes his book "Ultrasound diagnostics of the locomotor organs" as a standard work for sonography in orthopedics, trauma surgery and rheumatology.

Among other things, Gruber, in collaboration with Werner Konermann, developed the sonographic display of the facet joints of the spine ( Articulationes zygapophysiales  - Latin + Altgr. + Latin) and the sacroiliac joint , which allows radiation-free infiltration and thermocoagulation denervation of the same.

Medical focus

Gruber is a specialist in hip joint reconstruction, endoprosthetics and the replacement of knee and hip joint endoprostheses and is one of the experts in sonography of the locomotor organs and in conservative treatment of the spine.
