Hornostajpil ( Ukrainian Горностайпіль ; Russian Горностайполь Gornostaipol , Yiddish Hornsteipl, Hornosteipel) is a village in the north of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kiev with about 1000 inhabitants (2001).

Hornostajpil is located in the Ivankiv Rajon north of the confluence of the Teteriv in the Dnepr , which is dammed up to the Kiev Sea , near the Chernobyl exclusion zone . The Rajon center Ivankiw is 35 km southwest and the capital Kiev is about 120 km (80 km as the crow flies ) south of the village.

The village is the administrative center of the 40 km² district council of the same name, to which the villages Hubyn ( Губин ) with about 70 inhabitants and Laputky ( Лапутьки ) with about 20 inhabitants belong.

history

The village, first mentioned in writing in 1493, was destroyed in a Tatar attack in 1567 and rebuilt soon afterwards. From the Polish King Sigismund III. received the village in the April 1616 municipal rights conferred. Hornostajpil had a population of 1,547 in 1863, which increased to 3,286 by the 1897 census. From August 22, 1941 to November 6, 1943 the village was occupied by Wehrmacht troops. At the beginning of the German-Soviet War , the strategically important Dnepr crossing at Gornostaipol lay near the town . At the beginning of the 1970s the village had 1716 inhabitants.
