Gerd Owsian

Gerd Owsian (born February 17, 1940 in Naundorf near Freiberg , Saxony , † March 5, 1999 in Munich ) was a German wood designer, wood sculptor and restorer .

Life

Gerd Owsian was born in Naundorf near Freiberg in Saxony. After elementary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a metalworker in the Freiberg mining and smelting combine "Albert Funk" from 1954 to 1957 . There he worked artistically in the ironworks cultural circle. From 1965 to 1968 he studied chemistry and metallogy at the engineering school in Köthen-Bernburg .

From 1968 to 1983 Owsian worked at the Central Institute for Solid State Physics and Materials Research in Dresden . From 1983 to 1985 he worked as a metal restorer at the Völkerkundemuseum Dresden . All the while he worked artistically and acquired his skills and abilities for his wood carving work. From 1985 he was a freelance wood restorer, wood sculptor and designer in Dresden and lived in Niederpoyritz , Staffelsteinstraße 33. He later moved to Munich. Owsian died there in 1999 and was buried in the Hosterwitzer cemetery in Dresden .
