Gerd Peter

Gerd Peter (born October 27, 1941 in Wickenrode / Kassel district ) is a German labor researcher, political scientist and research manager .

Biographical data

Gerd Peter comes from a family of miners in North Hesse. He attended the Wesertor / Goetheschule Realgymnasium in Kassel, where he graduated from high school. This was followed by 18 months of military service in Koblenz and Sonthofen and the subsequent recognition as a conscientious objector . From 1963 Peter studied at the Free University of Berlin , in his main studies first journalism, then political science at the Otto Suhr Institute (OSI), which he graduated in 1969 with a diploma in political science. This was followed by a doctorate on "The IBM System" with Ossip K. Flechtheim . Gerd Peter is married and has two sons. He lives in Dortmund-Dorstfeld .

Professional background

Peter started his career in 1972 as a research assistant at the newly founded Institute for Environmental Protection and Environmental Quality Planning (INFU) at the University of Dortmund. In 1976 he moved to Bonn to the DFVLR project management agency for the newly launched action program “Research on the Humanization of Working Life ” (HdA). Before leaving, he was most recently the technical deputy to the head of Willi Pöhler . In 1981 he switched to the Dortmund Social Research Center (NRW Landesinstitut), where he initially carried out numerous third-party-funded labor research projects. There he was managing director from 1988 to 2002, succeeding Ursula Schumm-Garling and Wilfried Kruse. Peter has been a pensioner since 2006.

Research management

In 1992 Peter was the initiator, co-founder and editor (together with Ursula Müller, Christian von Ferber and Willi Pöhler , among others ) of ARBEIT. Journal for Labor Research and Labor Policy . Together with Gerhard Naegele , he has been the publisher of the academic series Dortmunder Contributions to Social and Social Policy, LIT Verlag Münster, since 1992 . In 1997 Peter, together with other people and institutes, founded the former minister Stein mine in Dortmund-Eving , a social science center Minister Stein (ZMS) , at the new location of the social research center (among others with: Institute for Gerontology IfG, cooperation center for science and work, Development Center EWZ, Society for the Promotion of Social Research GfS). In 2002 he was co-initiator (together with Frieder Otto Wolf , Dieter Scholz and Helmut Martens) of the Forum New Politics of Work in Berlin. After retiring in 2006, Peter was a founding member (together with Arno Georg and Uwe Dechmann, among others) of the Dortmund Research Office for Work Prevention and Politics (DoFAPP).
