Gerd Winter (legal scholar)

Gerd Winter (born March 2, 1943 in Diepholz ) is a German legal scholar .

Life

After graduating from the Johanneum Lüneburg in 1962 , the old language branch, he studied law at the universities of Würzburg , Freiburg im Breisgau , Lausanne and Göttingen from 1962 to 1966 and sociology at the University of Konstanz from 1966 to 1968 , where he was a research assistant in the department from 1969 to 1973 Jurisprudence. From 1972 to 1973 he was a visiting scholar at Yale Law School . He applied for the following academic degrees: first and second state examination in law ( OLG Celle 1966, OLG Stuttgart 1971), Dr. iur. ( University of Göttingen 1967). Lic. Rer. soc. (University of Konstanz 1969). Dr. hc from the University of Lucerne (2012) and the Jakashvili State University of Tbilisi (2017). In 1973 he became professor for private law and legal sociology, since 1984 professor for public law and legal sociology in the law department of the University of Bremen . From 1987 to 1994 he was co-director of the Center for European Legal Policy (ZERP). In 1994 he founded the Research Center for European Environmental Law (FEU), where he was director or co-director from 1994 to 2016. He has been a research professor at the FEU since retiring in 2008.

His research and work interests are German, European and international environmental law, comparative administrative law and legal sociology.
