Gerda Anger-Schmidt

Gerda Anger-Schmidt (born February 28, 1943 in Wels ; † January 8, 2017 in Vienna ) was an Austrian children's book author.

Life

After graduating from a commercial college, she spent three years traveling through Canada and the USA. Then she studied interpreting and translating in Vienna and Graz . After completing her studies, she worked for a few years as an interpreter and translator at home and abroad and finally at the Amerika-Haus in Vienna to design and coordinate cultural events. Since 1980 she has been writing prose and poetry.

Together with Winfried Opgenoorth , she initiated the Spring Hare Prize in 1996 .

Anger-Schmidt's books were often illustrated by Renate Habinger . Numerous word games are typical of her books .
