The Soğanlı Çayı is the left headwaters of the Filyos Çayı in northern Turkey .

The Soğanlı Çayı has several alternative names, which he bears in sections: Ulu Su , Gerede Çayı , Melan Çayı and Akçay . The Soğanlı Çayı rises as Ulu Su in the Bolu province on the northern slope of the 2400  m high Köroğlu Tepe , the highest mountain of the Köroğlu Dağları , a mountain range of the West Pontic Mountains . The Soğanlı Çayı turns quickly to the east-northeast. It flows as Gerede Çayı south of the district town Gerede . Later he takes the Çerkeş Çayı on the right and reaches the province of Çankırı . After an approximate flow distance of 140 km, on the provincial border with Kastamonu , the Soğanlı Çayı turns about 5 km to the north and then continues to flow in a predominantly west-northwest direction. Now he is also called Melan Çayı or Akçay . The river reaches Karabük Province . The Eskipazar Çayı flows into the river 10 km south of the provincial capital Karabük when coming from the south. It now turns north and joins in Karabük with the approach flowing from the east Araç Çayı for Filyos Çayı . The Soğanlı Çayı has a length of 260 km.
