Gerhard Dickel (musician)
Gerhard Dickel (born June 28, 1938 in Girkhausen ; † July 14, 2003 in Hamburg ) was a German church music director , cantor , organist and music professor.
Life
Gerhard Dickel was born in Girkhausen, today a district of Bad Berleburg , in 1938. After graduating from high school, he went to Hamburg as a student and studied school and church music there .
From 1966 to 1974 he was cantor and organist at the St. Andreas Church in Hamburg . From 1974 to 2000 he carried out both activities with a focus on organ and church music at the Michaeliskirche in Hamburg . Dickel also built up the St. Michaelis Boys' Choir, which he headed as conductor and choir director.
From 1969 until his retirement in 1999, Dickel was a professor of organ playing in the Protestant church music department at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .
In 2001 he moved from the Great Michel to the (Catholic) Little Michel .
His concerts and music recordings set artistic standards in church music . According to his last will, the light in the lantern of the tower of Michaeliskirche Hamburg burns at night in memory of him .
