Gerhard Hurte

Gerhard Hurte (born August 19, 1906 in Emstal ; † October 6, 1976 in Eutin ) was a German painter , glass painter and restorer .

Life

After his apprenticeship as a carpenter, Hurte studied nine years at the Berlin-Charlottenburg Art Academy with a focus on wall and glass painting, architecture, color and painting technology. After completing his studies, he married Dorothea Simmang in Dresden in 1934. In the post-war period, the family in the Ore Mountains lived off the sale of Dorothea Hurtes' weaving art. On August 12, 1961, the family left the GDR and lived in Eutin from there. On November 15, 1961, Hurte was expelled from the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR .

Act

Hurtes first artistic creative period lasted from 1951 to 1961. During this time numerous mosaics were created for columns, walls and fountains in Dresden , Zwickau and Berlin . Professionally, Hurte worked as an employee at the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Dresden and was mainly responsible for restoring churches and historic buildings in Saxony. In addition, he conceived designs for paraments and carpets, which his wife realized. After moving to Eutin, a new phase of work began with restorations, architectural art and ceramics.

His works include wall friezes in various schools in Kiel and works in Plön, Fleckeby, Ratekau, Eutin and Seeretz. He also created watercolors and drawings in red chalk , pen and charcoal.

His last major assignment before his death in 1976 was the restoration of the Katharinenkirche (Lübeck) .
