Gerhard Huttula
Gerhard Huttula (born June 6, 1902 in Berlin ; † January 15, 1996 in Düren ) was a German cameraman who was particularly responsible for special effects .
life and work
The son of the ivory turner Gustav Huttula and his wife Elise graduated from secondary school , practiced with a portrait photographer and became a member of the German Cinema Society. In 1922 he began with his former drawing teacher Wolfgang Kaskeline , who had set up as a self-employed film producer, with trick recordings, which was from then on his specialty.
Huttula worked on several commercials in the 1920s. In 1930 he got a job with the Ufa copier company Afifa. With his trick copier TRUCA from André Debrie , he tested the various possibilities of animation. In 1933 he joined German emigrants and settled in Buenos Aires . After unsatisfactory assignments as a cameraman, he returned to Germany in 1937 to support his mother. Here he succeeded Guido Seeber as head of his department for film tricks at Ufa.
Huttula's department contributed the animation to several important productions of the time. With airplane models in front of a projection screen he imitated flying maneuvers like in Quax, the Bruchpilot , in At that time he let two steam locomotive models collide and he was also responsible for the trick shots of Hans Alber's famous ride on the cannonball in Münchhausen .
After the Second World War, Huttula worked as a set designer at the Berlin Metropol-Theater , after which he created leading titles in the Koepenick film factory. In the 1950s he was the cameraman for nine children's and fairy tale films directed by Fritz Genschow . From 1958 to 1970 he produced more than a thousand advertising films for Ufa-Werbefilm. He taught at the technical college for optics and photo technology and was an honorary member of the Federal Camera Association .
He was also a member and at the same time boat maintenance in the Potsdamer Ruder Club-Germania eV in Berlin-Wannsee.
His grave is in the Heinersdorf municipal cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee.
