Gerhard Kettmann

Gerhard Kettmann (born August 25, 1928 in Wittenberg ; † September 25, 2009 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German linguist .

Life

Kettmann studied in 1948 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . In 1951 he put on the state examination for teaching at primary schools and then took up additional studies, which he successfully completed in 1953 with the state examination for teaching at secondary schools.

1956 Kettmann was at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Halle-Wittenberg with a dissertation on the language of Elbschiffer doctorate . In 1961 he became a research assistant at the Institute for German Language and Literature at the Academy of Sciences in Berlin , which later became the Central Institute for Linguistics. There, he worked 30 years to 1991. During this time he was in 1966 at the University of Leipzig with the work The electoral Saxon law firm Language 1486-1546 habilitation . In 1992 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg, where he was also head of the Central Elbian dictionary project . He was also appointed a member of the Historical Commission for Saxony-Anhalt. The linguist Kettmann had "for three and a half decades more than anyone else learned about Luther's German," said Matthias Heine.
