Gerhard Linnemann (born April 13, 1930 in Oschersleben (Bode) ; † December 11, 2001 in Ilmenau ) was a German electrical engineer and professor for theoretical electrical engineering / information technology at the Technical University of Ilmenau . In addition, he was rector here from 1972 to 1985 .

Live and act

Gerhard Linnemann was born in Oschersleben in the Magdeburg Börde . After attending elementary school and high school , he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial electrical mechanic. He then went from 1950 to 1953 to study at the engineering school for heavy engineering in Magdeburg , from which he graduated with the professional title of engineer . At that time he became a member of the SED . In 1955 he began studying theoretical electrical engineering at the University of Electrical Engineering (HfE) in Ilmenau, which he completed in 1961 as a graduate engineer in theoretical electrical engineering (Dipl.-Ing.).

He started his career as a research assistant at the Institute for General and Theoretical Electrical Engineering (Director: Eugen Philippow ) of the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Basic Technical Sciences at the HfE, later at the TH Ilmenau . During his time as senior assistant and lecturer , he carried out teaching assignments for sub-areas of theoretical electrical engineering, and as part of his research, he worked on his dissertation . He received his doctorate in 1963 from the TH Ilmenau as a doctoral engineer (Dr.-Ing.).

Linnemann then moved to Berlin and from 1967 to 1971 he was Technical Director at the “Karl Liebknecht” transformer factory in Berlin-Oberschöneweide (TRO) . He also held the position of chairman for the district association of Greater Berlin in the Chamber of Technology (KDT). For his work in the TRO he was awarded the GDR National Prize in 1971.

In 1970 Linnemann was appointed honorary professor at the TH Ilmenau, and in 1971 as a full professor of information technology . After his return to the TH Ilmenau, he held the post of Rector from 1972 to 1985, succeeding Karl-Heinz Elster , followed by Werner Kemnitz . During his tenure, Linnemann was a member of the SED district leadership in Suhl from 1974 to 1986 . He was also chairman of the electrical engineering advisory board (EIW) at the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education (MHF).

After the fall of the Wall, Linnemann tried again to gain a foothold as a scientist in North Rhine-Westphalia , but soon returned to Ilmenau. He took early retirement in 1990 and died in Ilmenau in 2001.
