Gerhard Mayer (diplomat)

Gerhard Mayer (* 1967 in Bludenz ) is an Austrian diplomat .

Life

Gerhard Mayer studied economics at the University of Innsbruck , followed by a postgraduate degree in European economics at the Europakolleg in Bruges.

In 1994 he entered the diplomatic service. He was attaché in the international law office of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs  (BMaA), in 1996 briefly attaché at the embassy in Rome (Italy) , and then again attaché in the EU department of the foreign ministry in Vienna. In 1998 he was appointed Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy Brasília (Brazil) to Ambassador Daniel Krumholz . From 2000 he moved to the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union as Minister-Counselor, where he was responsible for relations with the European Parliament . In 2003 he was employed again in Vienna as head of department for fundamental and institutional questions of the European Union. In 2008 he became deputy head of mission in Buenos Aires (Argentina) with Ambassador Gudrun Graf and from 2010 Robert Zischg .

In December 2012 he was appointed head of mission in Caracas , and thus Austrian Ambassador to Venezuela, Guyana, and the island states of the Lesser Antilles as well as the Permanent Mission to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) .
