Gerhard Röthler
Gerhard Röthler (born October 29, 1920 in Breslau ; † October 18, 1999 in Salzburg ) was a German-Austrian musician, musicologist and music teacher. He was a professor at the Mozarteum Salzburg.
Life
Gerhard Röthler received piano lessons from Professor Hirsch-Kaufmann and violin lessons from Elishewah Szépazsy in Breslau . In 1939 he was able to emigrate to Palestine and thereby survive the Holocaust . He worked as a farm worker and gardener and studied the double bass . In 1945 he received his first engagement from the military service of the British military ENSA .
After engagements at the Tel Aviv Opera and the Yemeni dance theater INBAL , Gerhard Röthler made up his regular music studies at the State Universities of Music in Cologne and Berlin from 1958 to 1963 . In Berlin, he first worked as a music therapist in the clinical area at the Berlin-Spandau State Neurological Clinic . The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) granted him a scholarship to research the state of music therapy in the USA (1965/66).
Since 1968 he has been teaching music theory at the Mozarteum . In 1981 he was appointed full professor for harpsichord and music theory.
In 1983 the book Playing the Harpsichord, translated and revised by Gerhard Röthler on behalf of Artemis & Winkler Verlag, was published .
His son David Röthler did memorial service in Yad Vashem in 1993/94 .
