Gerhard Roedel

Gerhard Roedel (born November 8, 1908 in Berlin ; † May 19, 1986 in Kiel ) was a German diplomat and from 1964 to 1966 Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Guatemala .

Life

Roedel studied law and political science . He passed the first state examination in law in 1931 and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. On May 1, 1933, he joined the NSDAP . From 1934 to 1941 Roedel worked in the management of a real estate agency in Berlin. From 1936 to 1937 he was in-house counsel at Deutsche Rentenbank . In 1936 he passed the second state examination and entered the ministry of Joachim von Ribbentrop . From 1941 to 1943 he worked as a research assistant at the German embassy in Rome . From 1943 he was a consultant in the Reich Ministry of Food and Agriculture .

In 1945 Roedel was the personal advisor to Theodor Steltzer . Nothing is known about its denazification . From 1946 to 1951 he was director of the state parliament in Kiel , in this position he was promoted to the upper government council at the end of 1949 . In 1951 he testified as a witness before a parliamentary committee of inquiry against President Karl Ratz (SPD).

From 1951 to 1953 he was chairman of a board of appeal of the State Office for Emergency Aid . From 1953 he was deputy head of the legal department in the Interior Ministry of Schleswig-Holstein .

In March 1953 Roedel switched to the foreign service of the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1954 to 1957 he headed the Foreign Office in Berlin and was proficient in protocol matters. In 1955 he was promoted to lecturer first class.

Roedel was accredited from 1957 to 1960 as Ambassador to the Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations in New York City . From 1960 to 1964 he worked again in the Foreign Office, most recently as head of department. From 1964 to 1966 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Guatemala. As ambassador to the government of Alfredo Enrique Peralta Azurdia , he signed an agreement on technical cooperation on April 26, 1966 .

From 1966 to 1967 Roedel was head of the department of legation and consular law, reparation, traffic law and civil service law in the Foreign Office. From September 1967 until his provisional retirement in April 1970 he was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in New Orleans . His final retirement took place in November 1973.
