Gerhard Schaumann
Gerhard Schaumann (born April 20, 1927 in Lobenstein , Thuringia ) is a German author .
Life
Childhood and youth
He spent his childhood with his parents in Lobenstein and Gera . He went to school there and was about to take his Abitur exams in 1945 , but the year was already needed for the war machinery of the regime at that time. Schaumann came to the Reich Labor Service and the Wehrmacht . Inevitably, the Soviet prisoner of war followed on the Eastern Front , which he was able to end as a returnee in 1945.
Professional career
While in captivity, he probably received the stimulus for the Russian language, because his career path began from being a Russian teacher to teaching Russian and Soviet literature and teacher training via the assistant at the Pedagogical Institute in Leipzig . In 1960 he came to Jena as an assistant at the Friedrich Schiller University . He received his doctorate in 1963 and completed his habilitation in 1972 . In 1973 he was appointed professor in Jena.
In 1946 he became a member of the SED . But he followed Marxism more than the party's guidelines and was more connected to intellectuals like Bertolt Brecht . Like many others, he hoped for a developed GDR and for better, undisturbed times. After the reunification , Gerhard Schaumann became director of the re-established Institute for Slavic Studies until he retired in 1993
