Gerhard Sellin

Gerhard Sellin (born October 5, 1943 in Ratzeburg ; † September 13, 2017 ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

He studied theology in Hamburg , Heidelberg and Kiel . He was an assistant at the University of Münster , where he received his doctorate . After completing his habilitation, he was a private lecturer in Münster . At the University of Oldenburg he was Professor of Protestant Theology with a focus on the New Testament. From 1992 to 2009 he was professor for the New Testament and the history of religion in late antiquity at the University of Hamburg . Sellin died in September 2017 at the age of 73.

His main research interests were literary exegesis, Philo of Alexandria, theology of the New Testament, Gospel of Mark and the letter to the Ephesians.
