Gerhard Vogel (social scientist)

Gerhard Vogel (born January 9, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian university professor who has now retired and is currently teaching at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He is considered the "father" of the separate collection of old materials in Austria. "

Life

Gerhard Vogel learned communications engineering and electronics at the Technological Trade Museum and graduated on June 25, 1964. He then studied business administration . He then did his doctorate in social and economic sciences on the subject of "The contribution of recycling to the stabilization of the techno-socio-economic system". In 1982 he completed his habilitation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and received his venia docendi for “General Technology and Merchandise Management with Special Consideration of Waste Management” with the special Habilitation part “The contribution of resource economics to the minimization of the entropy production of the irreversible economic processes in the open system Earth”.

From 1978 to 1992 Vogel worked as a member of the Zellcheming specialist committee for waste paper recycling of the Association of German Paper Mills. For Austria he was a representative in the Waste Management Policy Group of the Environment Committee of the OECD-Paris . In addition to teaching in Vienna, he was also a lecturer at the University of Innsbruck from 1992 to 1993 . Since 1985 he has been a member of the Ecology Commission of the Austrian Federal Government and head of the Waste Management Working Group. In 1990 he became a member of the scientific advisory board for waste management and remediation of contaminated sites of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Youth and Family . As a consultant to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and OECD, he traveled to Hong Kong , Beijing and the People's Republic of China . In April 1994 he became head of the Institute for Technology and Merchandise Management.

Vogel is one of the leading experts in Austrian waste management with around 600 publications on waste management and recycling .

Vogel has been a member of the Catholic student union K.Ö.HV Mercuria Vienna in the ÖCV since 1968 .
