Gerhard von Dernath (Council of War)

Gerhard Graf von Dernath (* 1622 ; † January 12, 1689 ) was a councilor of war in Saxony.

Live and act

The ancestors of Gerhard von Dernath came from the province of Braband and moved from there to Bohemia . Together with his brothers Theodor and Leon, Gerhard was appointed Imperial Count on November 20, 1655. He settled in Holstein and founded the noble family von Dernath, which existed in the male line until 1828 . As a councilor of war in Saxony, he later also worked as chief falconer at the court of Saxony.

Gerhard von Dernath owned large amounts of land in Holland. These included the barony of Cortesheimb and the estates of Dessenoer , Senesse and Engien . On December 27, 1659 he married Christine von Ahlefeldt . After the marriage he bought the Holstein estates of Kaden , Sierhagen , Hasselburg and Mühlenkamp .

The von Dernath couple had several children. The following are known of the sons:

  • Johann Georg (1666–1739), who worked as ducal gottorpischer conference councilor and district administrator.
  • Gerhard (1666–1740), who worked as a ducal godfather and lieutenant general.
