The noble family von Dernath , previously van der Nath , was originally a Dutch family who then settled in Bohemia and Hungary and in Holstein . The sex was raised to the rank of count in 1655 and died out in the male line in 1877.

history

The family came from the Netherlands and moved their seat from the province of Braband to Bohemia. The family was initially called "van der Nath" and kept this form of name until well into the 18th century. On November 20, 1655, the brothers Theodor, Gerhard and Leonhard were awarded the title of Count .

Theodor founded the older line. In 1730 she received the indigenous power in Bohemia and in 1750 in Hungary as a magnate . It went out in the male line with Wilhelm Graf van Dernath, Baron von Dessener and Winterhofen, kk chamberlain (* 1797; † 30 May 1877).

Gerhard von Dernath founded the younger line, which settled in the Gottorf part of Holstein and died out in the male line in 1828. His son of the same name had the Palais Dernath with a French Baroque garden built south of Gottorf Castle in the so-called Westergarten , which was laid out in the 16th century under Duke Adolf , designed by Johann Christian Lewon (around 1690–1760). The Schleswig-Holstein Higher Regional Court is located on the site of the palace that burned down in 1868 . The last name bearer of the younger line was Elise von Dernath (1789–1867), wife of Christian Günther von Bernstorff, who died in 1867 .
