Carl Ludwig von Baudissin (born August 21, 1756 at Gut Knoop , † March 1, 1814 in Kiel ) was a royal Danish lieutenant general and governor of Copenhagen .

His parents were the electoral Saxon General Heinrich Christoph von Baudissin (1709-1786) and his wife Susanne Magdalena Elisabeth von Zinzendorf (1723-1785). His brother Heinrich Friedrich was the Danish ambassador in Berlin. He belonged to the noble family Baudissin , who originally came from Upper Lusatia and came to Schleswig-Holstein during the Thirty Years' War .

Life

He came into the Saxon service at the age of 16, studied in Strasbourg and made his cavalier tour through Germany. France and England. After four years he came back and got a job with the Saxon General Staff. In 1778 he became a Saxon major. When his father died, he inherited the Lammershagen and Rantzau estates . So Baudissin came to Denmark and joined the local army. On December 7, 1787 he became a lieutenant colonel à la suite with the Norwegian body regiment. He then came to the Zealand Regiment, for which he received 700 Reichstaler on December 11, 1789. On August 13, 1790, he became Colonel de la Suite (with a patent on June 30, 1790). For this he received a full salary from January 1, 1793 and on September 18, 1801, he was promoted to major general. On December 16, 1801 he received the Danebrog Order (White Knight). On June 10, 1803 he became chief of the king's regiment, as the Zealand regiment was integrated into the Marinier regiment. He became lieutenant colonel and commander of the bodyguard , with only the Danish king standing above him as head of the regiment. His post as chief of the king's regiment was suspended during the period. First he was appointed ambassador extraordinary at the Prussian court. From there he was recalled on April 2, 1808. He became an order marshal and was a member of the commission for the expansion and modification of the Danebrog order . On August 10, 1808 he was appointed Danebrogmann and on July 29, 1809 he was commander of the foot bodyguard. On August 5, 1810, he became the commandant, vice-governor of Copenhagen and interim commander of the 1st Army Division and lieutenant general. On November 13, 1813 he was still governor of Copenhagen and died on March 2, 1814 in Kiel.

On June 24, 1785 he married Sophie Louise Charlotte von Dernath (der Nath) daughter of Friedrich Otto von Dernath and Christine Elisabeth von Plessen and sister of Magnus von Dernath . The couple had the following children:
