His parents were Count Carl Ludwig von Baudissin (* August 21, 1756; † March 1, 1814) and his wife, Countess Sophie Luise Charlotte von Dernath (* August 29, 1764; † August 9, 1828). He was the brother of Wolf Heinrich Graf von Baudissin and belonged to the noble family Baudissin , who originally came from Upper Lusatia and came to Schleswig-Holstein during the Thirty Years' War .

He entered Danish military service and rose to major until the elevation of the duchies in 1848 . In the Schleswig-Holstein movement he stood on the side of his compatriots and worked by asking the soldiers “whether everyone wanted to be sent to Denmark to fight against their compatriots, or whether he was with these he was determined to defend his fatherland against the Danes ”. So he contributed a lot to the connection of the troops to the state affair.

For Colonel promoted, he stayed in the unfortunate battle of construction for two hours against a triple majority and thereby facilitated the retreat of the main army. In the summer of 1849 he was seriously wounded in the "Battle of Kolding " and in 1850 near Idstedt , where his brigade held out . After Wilhelm von Willisen's resignation, he was given supreme command of the Schleswig-Holstein army , but he refused because he thought a foreigner would be more suitable under the circumstances. In February 1851 he and the other officers bid him farewell and since then have lived in Hamburg and Dresden , busy studying art . He died in Teplitz on June 25, 1865.

As a painter he created drawings with Italian motifs as well as Danish landscapes and brochures.
