Gerhart Schürch

Gerhart Schürch (born March 23, 1910 in Biel ; † August 28, 1994 in Bern ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Schürch studied law at the University of Bern , in 1933 advocate and a doctorate in 1936 for Dr. iur . From 1934 he worked in the Swiss Abroad Secretariat of the New Helvetic Society . In 1940 Schürch was a general staff officer in the so-called " officers' conspiracy for unconditional resistance ". From 1941 to 1944 he was a youth lawyer for the Bernese Oberland and from 1944 to 1962 he was an independent lawyer.

He traveled in 1947 and 1949 for the Swiss donation to the war victims in Czechoslovakia and in 1968 for the International Red Cross to Nigeria .

In 1960 Schürch was elected to the Bern City Council as a member of the Free Democratic Party . From 1962 to 1971 he was Bern's Grand Councilor and from 1962 to 1975 (in) the City of Bern City Council, where he was Finance Director and (once?) Vice-President.

From 1971 to 1979 he was National Councilor and President of the Foreign Affairs Commission for two years; from 1976 to 1980 he was also a member of the parliamentary delegation to the Council of Europe . Schürch belonged to the Federal Community and the Bern Association for Social Policy .

Schürch was also a colonel in the Swiss Army.

His father was the long - time editor -in- chief of the daily newspaper Der Bund Ernst Schürch .
