Germaine Ribière (born 1917 in Limoges ; died November 20, 1999 in Paris ) was a French Catholic who was a member of the Resistance during World War II . During this time she saved numerous Jews, for which she was awarded the honorary title Righteous Among the Nations by the Israeli state on July 18, 1967 .

Germaine Ribière studied at the time of the German occupation of France in Paris, where she witnessed the discrimination and persecution of the Jewish population. In May 1941 she was present when the Jews were arrested in the Marais , the oldest Jewish quarter in Paris. She gave up her studies and went to Vichy , where she wrote articles for the newspaper Cahiers de Témoignage chrétien .

Germaine Ribière got involved with the Amitié Chrétienne , which had been established in Lyon since 1941 , to help Jews and other people persecuted by the Vichy government and the German occupiers. During the persecution of the Jews in August and September 1942 in Haute-Vienne , Creuse and Indre , Germaine Ribière and the Protestant pastor Chaudier from Limoges hid many Jews with non-Jewish families. Germaine Ribière found shelter for Jewish children at the Œuvre de secours aux enfants (OSE) . The doctor there Gaston Lévy called Germaine Ribière "our heroine in times of need".

Germaine Ribière took part in the production of false papers for Jewish people. On January 27, 1943, members of the Amitié Chrétienne gathered  in the apartment of the Swiss Protestant pastor Roland de Pury because they had learned that the offices of the Union générale d'Israélites de France (UGIF), from which Jews received false papers, on the next day should be monitored by the Gestapo . That is why Germaine Ribière posed as a cleaning lady at the UGIF the following morning and warned the arriving Jewish people who then did not enter the building.

Within the Resistance and the Amitié Chrétienne  , Germaine Ribière also coordinated the cooperation with the Jewish resistance, first in the Limousin and from 1944 in the Rhône-Alpes region . Above all, she was able to save many Jewish children.

After the war, Germaine Ribière acted as mediator in the Finaly affair .

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Germaine Ribière's birth, the French Post issued a stamp in her honor, which shows her.
