Germania Ober-Roden , officially: 1. Football Club Germania 08 eV Ober-Roden , is a football club with around 650 members from Rödermark in southern Hesse ( Ober-Roden district ).

history

The club was founded on April 10, 1908 and is the first and at the same time the oldest soccer club in the Dieburg soccer district . After the Second World War, from 1952 to 1963, the club belonged to the 1st Amateur League of Hesse for eleven years, at that time Hesse's highest football league for amateur clubs. The best placement was achieved in 1960 when they finished third behind SpVgg Bad Homburg and were defeated 2-1 against Bad Homburg in the decider for promotion to the Regionalliga Süd .

After the club was relegated to the A-League in the period that followed, after many promotions and relegations, it was only with the return to the national league in 1992 that things steadily improved. In 2003 the Germanic ranks under coach Peter Lack again in the Oberliga Hessen , to which they belonged for three seasons. In the first year after relegation in 2006, 1. FC Germania 08 Ober-Roden, as the state league champion, was promoted to the Hessen Oberliga with a 19 point lead. In the 2007/08 league season, the team was trained by ex-national player "Ronny" Borchers . In 2008/09, the three-time Romanian national soccer player and ex-professional Daniel Ciucă acted as coach, who resigned on September 29, 2008 for health reasons. In the 2016/17 season, Germania Ober-Roden won the championship in the Darmstadt group league after an exciting promotion battle in the last few game days and was promoted to the Hessen-Süd association league . In the 2017/18 season, all three clubs from Rödermark will play in the Verbandsliga Süd: TS Ober-Roden (which just managed to keep the class), Viktoria Urberach (relegated from the Hessenliga), and promoted Germania Ober-Roden.

Before the First World War, the club also ran athletics and from 1935 to 1950 a handball department with women's, men's and youth teams. In the 1960s, Germania successfully participated in the Frankfurt soccer district for many years with a women's soccer team. The club maintains a youth department and a special team (SOMA) for senior citizens. The 1st team plays today in the Verbandsliga Süd and the 2nd team in the A-League Dieburg.

For women there is a women's gymnastics group, which has almost 100 members and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2007. In 2006, the line dance group "Boots'n'Buckles" joined the club as a subdivision.
