Gerolamo Boccardo

Gerolamo Boccardo (born March 16, 1829 in Genoa , † 1904 in Rome ) was an Italian economist and politician.

Boccardo drew Cavour's attention early on with his work . He was professor of economics at the University of Genoa , from 1877 senator of the Kingdom of Italy and from 1888 member of the Italian Council of State . He was also active in local politics, including as a member of the city council of Genoa (1859–1888). As a versatile author, he wrote works on economics, commercial law, history and science. His main work is the Trattato teorico-pratico di economia politica . Boccardo directed the publication of the new edition of the Nuova enciclopedia italiana and, as editor of the Biblioteca dell 'economista in Italy, published the works of many foreign economists such as Karl Marx , Ferdinand Lassalle , William Stanley Jevons and Léon Walras .

He belonged to various scientific societies, including the Accademia dei Lincei since 1870. In addition to the Order of Civil Merit of Savoy , he also received various degrees of the Ordine dei SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro and the Ordine della Corona d'Italia .
