Gersbach is a district of the Upper Franconian community of Weitramsdorf in the Coburg district .

geography

Gersbach is about eight kilometers west of Coburg , near the Bavarian-Thuringian border. About 700 meters away is the Dreiherrenstein , a former border point of the Kingdom of Bavaria and the duchies of Saxony-Coburg and Saxony-Meiningen, to the southwest in the Ummerstädter Forest . The district road CO 2 from Weitramsdorf to Ummerstadt leads past the place.

history

Gersbach was first mentioned in a document on June 27, 1226, when the Würzburg Bishop Hermann von Lobdeburg settled a dispute between Ulrich von Calwenberg (Callenberg) and the abbot of the Langheim monastery . Ulrich von Calwenberg and his brothers had to go to the farm at “Burckersdorf”, later Tambach , and the goods in the associated villages of Altenhof (“Vetus curia”), Weitramsdorf (“Weitersdorf”), Gersbach (“Gersbech”), and Neundorf ("Neuendorf") and Witzmannsberg do without.

At the beginning of the 14th century, the village was under the rule of the Henneberger . In 1353 the place with the Coburg Land came by inheritance to the Wettins and was thus part of the Electorate of Saxony from 1485 , from which the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg later emerged.

From 1835 Gersbach was an economic property or domain of the Counts of Ortenburg . In 1864 the estate had 34 residents and 4 buildings. On July 1, 1869, it was incorporated into Weitramsdorf.

In 1925 11 people lived in 3 houses. After the Second World War, the direct location on the inner-German border shaped the place until 1989 . In 1987 Gersbach had 4 residents and 2 houses with 3 apartments. At the beginning of the 1960s, the von Ortenburgers sold the houses. In 1975 a rider's pension was opened.
