geography

Neundorf is about ten kilometers southwest of Coburg in a valley through which the Tambach flows. The village is dominated by the parish church on a hill. The federal highway 303 from Schonungen to Coburg passes Neundorf. The former district of Neundorf am Holz, which is directly adjacent to the south-east, to the left of the Tambach, belongs to Neundorf today.

history

Neundorf was first mentioned in a document on June 27, 1226, when the Würzburg bishop Hermann von Lobdeburg settled a dispute between Ulrich von Calwenberg (Callenberg) and the abbot of the Langheim monastery . Ulrich von Calwenberg and his brothers had to go to the farm at “Burckersdorf”, later Tambach , and the goods in the associated villages of Altenhof (“Vetus curia”), Weitramsdorf (“Weitersdorf”), Gersbach (“Gersbech”), and Neundorf ("Neuendorf") and Witzmannsberg do without.

Neundorf was administered by the Tambach Monastery , the most important branch of the Langheim Monastery, which was the landlord and fiefdom of the Mönchsdorf. In 1356 the monastery owned a mill and 27 fiefs and all tithe in the place . At the beginning of the 17th century, Neundorf belonged to the Diocese of Würzburg and was a subsidiary church of Seßlach before it became its own parish in 1613.

During the Thirty Years War Neundorf was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1630 and 1637. The parish was given up in 1665 and re-established in 1797, with the Langheim monastery receiving patronage rights. Franconia became part of Bavaria in 1803 and, in the course of secularization in Bavaria , the Langheim monastery and its Tambach monastery courtyard were also dissolved.

A schoolhouse in the churchyard had existed since 1710. In 1860 it was replaced by a new building, which was expanded in 1925. A modern school building was inaugurated in 1963 and expanded in 1965 for the children of the neighboring towns. A community brewery was founded in 1870 and existed until 1958. The brewery building was later demolished.

On October 1, 1913, the Breitengüßbach – Dietersdorf railway was opened. With the Dietersdorfer train station about a kilometer away, Neundorf also received a connection to the railway network. The passenger traffic was stopped on September 28, 1975, on September 27, 1981 the complete shutdown took place. In 1927, the local council decided to connect to the electricity network of the overland works in Upper Franconia.

In 1845 the parish village had 39 houses and 195 inhabitants. In 1925 Neundorf had 186 residents and 44 residential buildings. In the community, which also included the hamlet of Neundorf am Holz and the solitude of Rothhof , 236 people lived, of whom 203 belonged to the Roman Catholic Church.

On January 23, 1972, 203 eligible voters decided in a referendum for and 14 against the integration into Weitramsdorf. On July 1, 1972, the Staffelstein district was dissolved. Since then, Neundorf has been in the Coburg district . In the course of the Bavarian territorial reform , the place lost its independence as a municipality and became part of the community of Weitramsdorf.

In 1987 the community, including the hamlet of Neundorf am Holz, had 346 inhabitants and 87 houses with 114 apartments. The former wasteland of Rothhof was a desert.
