Seal of Abbess Gertrud II of Boventhen

Gertrud II von Boventhen came from a noble family with ancestral seat in Bovenden near Göttingen .

Gertrud II had already been in the monastery as a canoness since 1299 and, before she was elected abbess in 1317, held the office of cellar master celleraria . The confirmation of the election of the abbess by Pope John XXII. took place on January 21, 1317.

The abbess got into a dispute with the nobles von Hadmersleben over the patronage rights of the churches in Ströbeck and Siestedt . In order to get their rights recognized by the nobles, they had to give them patronage rights over the church in Ammendorf .

The pen must have found itself in considerable financial problems at this point, because the pen was unable to pay the annual papal recognition interest of 2  silver marks , which the pen had to pay since it was handed over to the papal chair by Gero .

The fortification of a small castle complex in the monastery district of Gernrode, which the Anhalt princes, probably Heinrich I carried out at the expense of the monastery , probably contributed significantly to the problems. The documents show that the construction work for the monastery not only resulted in considerable costs, but that the archive, as well as large parts of the church treasure and many of the relics, were stolen. The fortifications were already so damaged in 1366 that they had to be repaired again.

Gertrud II probably died on July 8th, 1324. Andreas Popperodt gives July 7th, 1324 as the date of her death. He had seen the inscription on the original grave slab. However, the grave has disappeared today. It was located near the other graves of the abbesses in the collegiate church of Gernrode . Gertrud cannot have died on July 7th, 1324, because on July 8th, 1324 she still notarized the foundation of an altar in the collegiate church, and her vigil was celebrated on July 8th. Her successor in office was Jutta von Oesede .
