features

Macroscopic features

The hat reaches a diameter between five and ten centimeters, in Scandinavia sometimes 15 to 18 centimeters. The cap is initially hemispherical to bell-shaped, it is later convex and finally spread out flat. It is colored yellow, orange or rusty brown. Often there are brick-colored to rust-orange-colored flakes. The hat has a medium hygrophanity . The lamellas are initially tinted ocher brown, later rusty brown. The cutting edge is usually lighter in color. They are grown, a little tight and mixed with shorter lamellas. The stem becomes 5 to 15, sometimes 20 centimeters long and 0.7 to 1.5 centimeters wide. It is slim in shape and usually longer than the width of the hat. Its shape is cylindrical and slightly broadened at the base. It is pale gray-brown in color and has white fibers. The stem has a striking ring of vermilion in color. Below that there are further velum belts. The flesh is pale cream gray in color. It has a slightly dull, earthy to slightly radish-like odor. The spore powder is cinnamon brown.

Microscopic features

The spores themselves are elliptical to ovate and measure 9.5–12 × 6–7 micrometers. They are covered with small warts that are not connected to each other. The sterile elements on the lamellar cutting edges (Cheilo cystiden ) are inconspicuous, cylindrical to club-shaped and sometimes have transverse walls ( septa ).

Species delimitation

The purple belt foot ( Cortinarius paragaudis ) looks similar . It grows under conifers and has smaller spores.

ecology

The decorated belt foot is mainly found in acidic spruce-fir forests, where it colonizes humus and nutrient-poor, dry to moist, often boggy soils. It is a mycorrhizal fungus that usually forms a symbiosis with birch trees . The fruiting bodies appear in summer to autumn; the focus is on late summer.

distribution

The decorated belt foot can be found in North America, Europe and North Asia (Japan). In Europe, the area extends from Great Britain, the Netherlands and France in the west to Russia in the east and from Spain, Italy, Hungary and the Ukraine to Fennoscandinavia in the north. In Germany, the fungus occurs scattered with local clusters such as the Bavarian Forest . Larger gaps can be found on the Lower Rhine and in western Lower Saxony.

Systematics

Expressions with brownish-yellow velum bands are called var. Luteoornatus .
