The Society of St. Paul the Apostle ( Latin : Societas a Sancto Paulo Apostolo, abbreviation : SSP ) is a Roman Catholic institute for the consecrated life of men and women.

History and goals

With the establishment of the Society (Brothers and Priests) on August 20, 1914, by the Italian Blessed Priest Giacomo Alberione , the "Pauline Family" began, which today consists of various religious and secular institutes . The ecclesiastical approbation was granted to the Paulus sisters on June 27, 1949 by Pope Pius XII. Today the brothers, priests and sisters are represented on all continents in over 30 countries. The center in Rome is formed by the institute and the sanctuary around the Basilica of Santa Maria Regina degli Apostoli alla Montagnola . In Germany there is a branch in Munich . The aim of the society is the “proclamation and dissemination of the gospel through the mass media ” and living and working in the light of Pauline theology . Since 2004 Silvio Fausto has been the General Superior of the Order.

Religious institutes

  • The secular institute of the Annunciation ( Istituto Maria Santissima Annunziata, abbreviation: IMSA ) was founded in 1960. It is an association of women who live in their professions . They live in poverty, celibacy, and obedience in faith in the spirit of their pledge .
  • The Secular Institute of St. Archangel Gabriel ( Istituto San Gabriele Arcangelo ) was founded in 1960. Men who live in their professional world and do not want to enter a religious institute gather in it. Under the spiritual guidance of the Paules Fathers, they take vows of celibacy, poverty and obedience.
  • The Holy Family Secular Institute ( Instituto Sancta Famiglia ) was founded in 1960 and is a community of married people. It is the last establishment of Father Alberione within the Pauline family. Members live with their families and as a couple take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
