Gestigon (stylized gestigon) is a software company , founded in September 2011 by Sascha Klement, Erhardt Barth and Thomas Martinetz . Gestigon develops software based on 3D sensors for recognizing gestures, poses and biometric features in real time. 3D data are used here, which enable a much more robust and more precise detection of body limbs. The gestigon software is independent of the sensor type and works with TOF cameras , stereo cameras or structured light. The patented output technology is based on the so - called self - organizing cards .

Gestigon has been developing solutions for Audi , Renault and Volkswagen as well as AR / VR glasses for the entertainment industry and the intelligent home since 2016 .

In March 2017, gestigon was taken over by the French automotive supplier Valeo .

history

Sascha Klement worked at the University of Lübeck as a student and doctoral candidate for professors Thomas Martinetz and Erhardt Barth, who had been working with so-called TOF cameras since 2002 in order to use 3D depth maps in image processing. Together they founded gestigon GmbH in 2011 with start-up financing from the High-Tech Gründerfonds , the medium-sized investment company Schleswig-Holstein and Lübeck Business Angels .

In March 2012 Moritz von Grotthuss joined the company as a “late founder”, first as a consultant and then as CEO . In the same month, Gestigon received the IKT Innovativ innovation award at CeBIT , as one of 15 startups out of 276 applicants.

In 2013, gestigon took part in the CES in Las Vegas and the TechCrunch Disrupt in New York City for the first time . In the following year, Visteon and Volkswagen were already using gestigon's gesture recognition software in their products at CES and CeBIT , where gestigon was then awarded the “CeBIT Innovation Award”. Gestigons Technologie was also represented at CES 2015 and CES 2016 with Audi , Volkswagen and Infineon .

At TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco in September 2015, gestigon presented its virtual reality software Carnival, based on the Oculus Rift and various depth sensors. Carnival's first demo took place at CES 2015. Gestigon maintains close partnerships with various companies that manufacture hardware and sensors for 3D imaging. In 2015, gestigon agreed a close cooperation with Inuitive, a US manufacturer of 3D image sensors, to develop its own VR device. This was presented at CES 2016 .

In July 2015, Fabian von Kuenheim's nbr technology ventures GmbH joined gestigon as the main investor. The High-Tech Gründerfonds and Vorwerk Direct Selling Ventures also invested .

In February 2017, the French automotive supplier Valeo took over all shares in gestigon GmbH as part of a share deal (exit). Since then, gestigon GmbH has continued to operate as the Valeo / Lübeck location and developed into a global competence center for 3D human-machine interaction.
