Get Up is a song by the American rapper 50 Cent . It was first released on October 7, 2008. Get Up was originally supposed to be on the Before I Self Destruct album. The song was produced by Scott Storch . According to 50 Cent, the song is inspired by 2Pac's song California Love .

The track was first published by 50 Cent on October 7, 2008 on Myspace and its site ThisIs50.com , and on iTunes a week later. On October 30 of the same year, the explicit version was also released on YouTube.

The text is about getting people to dance on the dance floor. 50 Cent worked again with Scott Storch, who had previously produced and written Candy Shop and Just a Lil Bit with him .

2Pacs California Love was an inspiration for Get Up , according to 50 Cent .

The official music video was first released on YouTube on June 16, 2009 . So far (October 2012) it has received around 23 million views there. The music video shows 50 cents training at the beginning. At the end of the video, 50 Cent stands in front of a corridor with a woman as the last man on earth. The recording is based on the film I Am Legend . Lloyd Banks , Tony Yayo and Spider Loc worked on the clip, among others . 50 Cent told MTV News :

“I wanted to do something more exciting and interesting than the traditional club video. The directors come in, and guys present treatments to me, and they aren't my usual video directors, and we came up with a concept for it, just a little more futuristic. I took a scene that I seen in a Will Smith film, I Am Legend… It's a collage that I thought was interesting. ”

With Get Up you could reach various charts: number 73 in Australia, number four in Belgium (Wallonia), number 31 in Canada, number 33 in Ireland, number 24 in Great Britain and number 44 in the United States. They stayed in the charts for seven weeks in Belgium, eleven weeks in Canada, nine in Ireland, eight in the UK and nine weeks in the United States.
