Getty H. Huffine

Getty Herschel Huffine (born August 25, 1889 in Bowling Green , Kentucky , USA , † February 12, 1947 in Binghamton , New York , USA) was an American composer , trombonist and tuba player .

Life

Huffine was born in Bowling Green, America, in 1889, the oldest of four children. There he grew up and received his education at a Bible school . When Huffine was 18 years old, a town band was founded in his hometown, to which he immediately applied. According to his own statement, at that time he “couldn't distinguish a clarinet from a big drum”. As an instrument he was assigned the valve trombone , which he had to learn autodidactically . He also trained independently in harmony , counterpoint and composition .

Getty H. Huffine later moved to New York State, where he worked as a tuba player in several circus bands of different sizes. He was a member of the faculty at Hofstra University .

Huffine died in Binghamton on February 12, 1947, at the age of 57 .
