The common flat bear moss ( Diphasiastrum complanatum ) is a plant from the family of the bear moss family (Lycopodiaceae), which is also often placed as Lycopodium complanatum in the genus of the bear moss ( Lycopodium ).
description
The perennial plants grow with a creeping shoot that rests on the ground or crawls under loose material. From this branch branched side shoots rise. These usually reach heights of approx. 10 cm. However, since the main shoot can become significantly longer, the overall size of the plants can vary considerably. The axes of the side rungs are significantly wider on the flanks, so that they are flattened overall.
The leaves are four-lined on the stems and are sessile, not kneeling and broadest at the base. The flank blades are not or only slightly bent downwards. The leaves on the underside of the shoot are very small.
The ears that carry the sporophylls are 15-20 mm long and have no or short stalk.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 46, less often 22 or 44.
Distribution and location requirements
The common flat bear grows on the ground of coniferous forests and in dwarf shrub heaths , but not in high mountains. It occurs in societies of the class Pulsatillo-Pinetea but also of the order Piceetalia.
It is distributed circumboreally in the temperate and arctic latitudes and in the mountains of the tropics . Its distribution area includes Europe, North America, Middle East, Siberia, East Asia, India, Sri Lanka, the Malay Archipelago and the Philippines.
