The wavy blouse ( Eucomis autumnalis ) is a species of the genus bloom ( Eucomis ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). This kind is very rich in forms, there are three subspecies .

features

The wavy blouse is a perennial herbaceous bulb plant that reaches heights of 15 to 30 (45) centimeters. The leaves are 1.5 to 13 centimeters wide and mostly ovate, rarely ovoid. Its edge is wavy. There are 10 to 45 bracts. The flower cluster is 5 to 15 centimeters long. The perigone and ovary are green.

The flowering period extends from July to August.

Occurrence

The wavy flower lily is found in Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. It grows on damp, rocky grasslands.

Systematics

In Eucomis autumnalis can distinguish two subtypes:

  • Eucomis autumnalis subsp. autumnalis : It occurs from Malawi to South Africa. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60.
  • Eucomis autumnalis subsp. clavata (Baker) Reyneke : It occurs in southern Africa. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60-64.

A third subspecies, Eucomis autumnalis subsp. amaryllidifolia (Baker) Reyneke is mostly viewed as a separate species, Eucomis amaryllidifolia Baker . Their chromosome number is 2n = 60.

use

The wavy flower lily is rarely used as an ornamental plant in borders. The species has been in culture since 1760 at the latest.
