Gian-Paolo Biasin

Gian-Paolo Biasin (born November 7, 1933 in Reggio nell'Emilia , † August 24, 1998 in Berkeley ) was an American Romance scholar, Italianist and literary scholar of Italian origin.

life and work

Biasin studied law at the University of Modena and graduated in 1956. He came to the United States on a Fulbright scholarship and received a Masters in Political Science from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University with the thesis Four modern Italian jurists. Their legal and political concepts . Then he switched to literary studies and received his doctorate in 1964 from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore with the thesis Lo straniero sulle colline. From 1964 to 1973 he taught at Cornell University (first as Assistant Professor, from 1967 as Associate Professor), from 1973 to 1981 as Professor of Italian and Comparative Literature at the University of Texas at Austin and finally from 1981 as Professor of Italian from the University of California at Berkeley .
