Giant tomb of Su Pranu
The giant grave of Su Pranu est (also called Su Tentorzu) is located near Abbasanta in the province of Oristano in Sardinia and is in poor condition. The buildings called “Tumbas de sos zigantes” in Sardu and “Tombe dei Giganti” in Italian are the largest prenuraghic cult structures in Sardinia and are among the latest megalithic structures in Europe . The 321 known giant tombs are monuments of the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture (2,200–1,600 BC), the forerunner culture of the Nuragher. Structurally, giant tombs appear in two variants. The systems with portal steles and exedra , such as Su Pranu, are of the older type.
Type sequence
Structurally, giant tombs appear in two variants. The systems with portal steles and exedra are of the older type. In later systems, the exedra consists of a square facade, significantly raised in the middle, made of processed and layered stone blocks.
description
In the midst of only a few preserved, fallen blocks of the exedra lies the broken, approximately 2.5 m high monolithic stele, which, unlike other structures of this type, has no portal opening. The largely preserved chamber is about 8.5 m long and consists of a double layer of vertical stone slabs. It was originally filled with earth and rubble. Horizontal slabs, some of which are still preserved in situ , formed the ceiling.
The nearby prehistoric area of Mesu Enas consists of a dolmen and the Domus de Janas of Bonorchis. Nearby are the giant tombs of Bidil 'e Pira , Goronna and Perdu Pes , the fountain sanctuary of Santa Cristina and the Nuraghe Losa .
