Gijsbertus Coeverincx (* around 1539 in St. Oedenrode , † September 20, 1613 in 's-Hertogenbosch , also Gysbertus Coeverincx ) was a Dutch clergyman. In 1589 he was elected Bishop of Deventer , but did not take up this office.

Life

Coeverincx studied theology in Leiden and graduated with a licentiate . Around 1566 he was appointed pastor in Oss , where he also became dean in 1571 . In addition, since 1569 he was canon of St. Jan in 's-Hertogenbosch. On September 8, 1571, he was appointed archdeacon of the diocese , in the same year also as president of the newly established seminary there . In 1578, in the absence of Bishop Metsius, he performed the episcopal duties in the direction of the diocese as vicar general . In 1585 he became dean of the cathedral chapter and in 1589 he was proposed for the vacant bishopric of Deventer. However, the great adversity associated with this office deterred him, so that he did not consent to the election until March 20, 1590. However, he was not given the opportunity to take possession of his diocese, as the Protestants took Deventer during the Eighty Years' War that same year .

In 1610 Sasbout Vosmeer proposed him again for the vacant bishopric of Roermond .

Coeverincx died on September 20, 1613 and was buried in the choir of St. John's Church in 's-Hertogenbosch.
