The Diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch ( Latin Dioecesis Buscoducensis , Dutch Bisdom' s-Hertogenbosch , German diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch ) is one of seven Roman Catholic dioceses of the Dutch church province with headquarters in the city of ' s-Hertogenbosch ( Den Bosch ) in Noord-Brabant (North Brabant).
history
The first diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch was established on May 12, 1559 from areas of the diocese of Liège . With the dissolution of the diocese in 1645, the areas returned to the diocese of Liège.
The forerunner of today's diocese 's-Hertogenbosch is the Apostolic Vicariate of' s-Hertogenbosch, founded in 1657. On July 15, 1801, the Vicariate got parts of the dissolved diocese of Antwerp and gave up parts of its territory on March 22, 1803 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate of Breda . The areas of the dissolved Apostolic Vicariates Grave – Nijmegen and Ravenstein – Megen came to the Vicariate in 1851. On March 4, 1853, the vicariate with additional areas from the Archdiocese of Mechelen and the Diocese of Liège was raised to the diocese.
