On the site of today's house "Gilden im Zims" there was already a building in 1163 under the name "Minnefusshaus" at that time.

According to historical tradition, the house was called "Zabelbank" in 1351.

In 1563 the Cologne councilor Wilhelm Peter ter Laen von Lennep completely rebuilt the house in its current form, as a representative town house, in the style of the late Renaissance.

At the end of the 18th century the community center was run under the name "Zum Sankt Peter".

In 1920 Johann Zims (1887–1972), father of the Cologne track cyclist Hans Zims (1908–1980), acquired the historic building and named it "Haus Zims" after his family name.

The house burned down as a result of the air raids in 1943; In 1946 it was repaired again.

The building was extensively rebuilt and restored by the new operating company between 2006 and 2009 and, as the official brewery of the Gilden Kölsch brewery, under its current name “Gilden im Zims” (“Heimat kölscher Helden”) seats around 800 guests on three levels on.

particularities

The Gilden im Zims brewery is partially located on historic masonry from Roman times , seven meters below the level of today's Heumarkt. The exposed walls, with a wall thickness of up to 1.80 meters and different masonry connections , consist largely of basalt lava , burnt masonry bricks and granite stone . Wells, some of which were still active, were restored in the course of extensive renovations from 2006 to 2009. The house is a stop on the historic Cologne Brewery Trail . As a branch of the Cologne Carnival Museum, the building houses a permanent carnival exhibition.
