Gintaras Bagdonas (born September 5, 1965 in Mantviliškis , Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Lithuanian colonel and intelligence officer . From 2014 to 2018 he was Director of the NATO Energy Security Center of Excellence .

Life

From 1971 he lived in Anykščiai . From 1972 to 1980 he studied in the 2nd middle school Anykščiai. From 1980 to 1983 he graduated from the Kėdainiai technical vocational high school . From 1983 to 1984 he worked as an electrician in a felt factory. From 1984 to 1986 he did his military service in the Soviet Army in Kazakhstan . From 1986 to 1991 he studied electrical engineering at the Faculty of Energy Economics at the Technical University in Kaunas .

Military career

In 1991, Bagdonas joined the military volunteer organizations that emerged when Lithuania broke away from the Soviet Union . With these he rose to the battalion commander until 1994. He then spent a year in the service of the United Nations Protection Force in Croatia. From 1995 to 1998 he was a military attaché in Latvia and Estonia . He spent the next few years on various posts in the field of military intelligence . In 2003 he completed a postgraduate course at the NATO College in Rome . From 2004 to 2006 he completed a master's degree in political science at Vilnius University and was promoted to colonel in 2005. In 2007, at the suggestion of Defense Minister Juozas Olekas , he was appointed Brigadier General on duty by President Valdas Adamkus , and until 2010 he headed EU military intelligence on the European Union Military Staff . From 2010 to 2012 he was head of the Lithuanian Military Academy and from 2012 to 2014 he served in Afghanistan .

Private

Bagdonas is married. He has two daughters with his wife Jovita (* 1960).
