Gioacchino Besozzi

Gioacchino Besozzi SOCist (born December 23, 1679 in Milan , † June 18, 1755 in Tivoli ) was a Cistercian abbot and cardinal.

Life

Besozzi came from a noble Milanese family and entered the Cistercian order at the age of 16 . He taught theology and ancient languages ​​at home schools in Milan and Rome. In 1720 he became abbot of the monastery in Venice and in 1724 of the abbey of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome, whose library he significantly expanded. Pope Benedict XIV elevated him to cardinal priest of San Pancrazio on September 9, 1743 . As such, he was a member of several Vatican congregations. In 1745 he exchanged his titular church for Santa Croce in Gerusalemme . In 1747 he was appointed major penitentiary .

He died in Tivoli in 1755 and was buried in his titular church, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme.
