Giorgio Marengo IMC (born June 7, 1974 in Cuneo , Italy ) is an Italian Roman Catholic religious and apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia .

Life

Giorgio Marengo joined the religious order of Consolata Missionaries and studied from 1993 to 1995 at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy and then until 1998 at the Pontifical Gregorian University . On 24 June 2000, he put his perpetual profession from and received on 26 May 2001 by the Erzbiuschof of Turin , Cardinal Severino Poletto , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 2000 to 2006 he studied at the Pontifical Urban University and received a doctorate in missiology . In addition to his studies, he was the first representative of his religious community in Mongolia since his ordination as a missionary. Since 2016 he has been the regional councilor of his order for Asia and superior for Mongolia.

Pope Francis appointed him on April 2, 2020 as Apostolic Prefect of Ulaanbaatar and Titular Bishop of Castra Severiana . He was ordained bishop by the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Luis Antonio Tagle , on August 8 of the same year in the Consolata Shrine in Turin . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Turin, Cesare Nosiglia , and his predecessor Severino Cardinal Poletto.
