Gisbert Ketteler came from the Westphalian noble family Ketteler , from which numerous well-known personalities emerged. He was the son of Gotthard Ketteler zu Neuassen (1450-1518) and his wife Margarethe von Bronckhorst-Batenburg . His siblings were

Career and work

Gisbert studied at the University of Bologna and became canon in Münster in 1494. In August 1497 it came into the possession of the Archdeaconate of Milte . In March 1507 his parents gave him a severance payment in the form of an annual pension of 200 gold guilders. The cathedral chapter of Paderborn chose him in 1505 to the provost . Its task was to represent the cathedral chapter externally and to manage its property. He remained in this office until his death. He was also the administrator of the Chamber of Commerce of Friesland . On September 4, 1535, shortly after his death, the Münster bishop conferred this important office on Wilbrand Korff gen. Schmising. At the beginning of the 14th century, five parishes near Groningen had placed themselves under the protection of the Bishop of Münster, so that the Frisian areas belonged to the administrative area of ​​the diocese of Münster.
