Gisela Perlet

Gisela Perlet (born October 29, 1942 in Magdeburg ; † December 24, 2010 in Rostock ) was a German translator .

Life

Gisela Perlet grew up in the village of Gutenswegen in the Magdeburg Börde . She studied German and Nordic studies at the University of Greifswald . She then worked from 1966 to 1979 as an editor for the Rostock Hinstorff publishing house. Her first translations appeared in the late 1960s . Differences with government agencies over a planned Kierkegaard translation led to her dismissal; she then continued her work as a freelance translator and editor . Perlet, who suffered from cancer in the last years of her life, last lived in Rostock.

Gisela Perlet mainly translated works of fiction from Danish ; Her translations by Hans Christian Andersens and Søren Kierkegaards are particularly important .

Gisela Perlet was a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works . She received the following awards: in 1998 the Danish Dannebrogorden , in 2001 a Federal Cross of Merit , in 2002 the Johann Heinrich Voss Prize for Translation and in 2004 the Translation Prize of the Danish Art Council .

The FAZ paid tribute to her in an obituary: She was considered the doyenne of the German Danish translators ... she was living proof that translators can also have a work. (January 13, 2011).
