Gisela Vetter-Liebenow (* 1959 as Gisela Vetter ) is a German art historian and curator . She heads the Wilhelm Busch - German Museum for Caricature and the Art of Drawing in Hanover .

life and work

Gisela Vetter-Liebenow was born in 2011 with her art history dissertation on the subject of clothes make the man. Forms of dress language in the caricature doctorate at the University of Hamburg . In June 2012 she took over the management of the Museum Wilhelm Busch - German Museum for Caricature and the Art of Drawing .

Since 1993 she has also published the volumes accompanying 20 exhibitions that she has curated, including in 2000 for Big City Fever - 75 Years of 'The New Yorker' with around 120 cover drawings by the most famous satirical artists of the 20th century. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Wilhelm Busch Museum, she curated the exhibition Caricature and the Art of Drawing with 200 works by artists from the 17th century to the present day.

After the attack on Charlie Hebdo in January 2015, Gisela Vetter-Liebenow initiated a retrospective of the caricatures of the killed cartoonists on the Internet, in which, in addition to the Wilhelm Busch Museum, the caricature museums from Frankfurt am Main, Kassel and Basel are involved. Since July 3, 2015, the caricatures and texts of the French satirical magazine that have been translated into German have been available on the museen-fuer-satire.com platform . Each draftsman is presented in a biography. In addition, the satires are explained in a social and political context and reactions to the attack are processed. For Vetter-Liebenow, one of the tasks of museums is to arouse understanding for the draftsman.
